Visitor Tips for Exploring the Kenai Peninsula

Planning ahead can make your Alaska adventure even more enjoyable. Whether you’re visiting for world-class fishing, glacier sightseeing, wildlife viewing, or a relaxing getaway, these simple tips will help you make the most of your time on the Kenai Peninsula.

📅 Book Early During Peak Season

The busiest travel months are June through August, when fishing season, wildlife tours, and outdoor adventures attract visitors from around the world.

If you’re planning to visit during the summer, we recommend reserving your accommodations and guided activities well in advance to secure your preferred dates.

🧥 Dress for Changing Weather

Alaska’s weather can change quickly, even during the summer months.

The best approach is to dress in layers so you can easily adjust throughout the day. A lightweight waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes, and an extra warm layer are always good items to pack.

🏞️ Leave Time for Scenic Stops

One of the highlights of visiting the Kenai Peninsula is the journey itself.

As you travel between Cooper Landing, Seward, Soldotna, and nearby attractions, you’ll find scenic viewpoints, mountain landscapes, rivers, and wildlife that are worth stopping for.

Avoid overpacking your itinerary so you have time to enjoy these unexpected moments.

📷 Keep Your Camera Ready

Wildlife sightings often happen when you least expect them.

Bald eagles, moose, bears, mountain goats, and other native animals can frequently be seen throughout the region. Keeping your camera or phone easily accessible ensures you’re ready whenever nature surprises you.

Remember to admire wildlife from a safe and respectful distance.

🥾 Plan More Than One Adventure

Many guests are surprised by how much there is to experience beyond fishing.

While you’re here, consider adding activities such as:

  • Visiting Exit Glacier
  • Exploring Russian River Falls
  • Scenic hiking trails
  • Wildlife viewing
  • Local cafés and restaurants
  • Photography excursions
  • Day trips to Seward or Homer

Combining several experiences creates a more memorable Alaska vacation and allows you to experience the diversity of the Kenai Peninsula.

☕ Support Local Businesses

The Kenai Peninsula is home to welcoming local restaurants, cafés, shops, and family-owned businesses that help make every visit unique.

Taking time to enjoy local dining, explore nearby communities, and support small businesses adds another meaningful layer to your Alaska experience.

🦅 Respect Alaska's Natural Environment

One of the reasons Alaska remains so extraordinary is its untouched natural beauty.

Please help preserve it by staying on designated trails, disposing of waste responsibly, respecting wildlife habitats, and following local safety guidelines throughout your visit.

Together, we can help protect these incredible landscapes for future generations.

Make Every Day Count

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, a little preparation goes a long way.

Why Families Love Exploring Alaska Together

The best family vacations aren’t measured by how many places you visit—they’re remembered for the moments you share together.

On the Kenai Peninsula, every day brings a new opportunity to reconnect, explore, and create memories that stay with your family long after the trip is over.

Whether you’re introducing your children to Alaska for the first time or planning a multi-generational getaway, there’s something here for every age and every adventure level.

Adventures Everyone Can Enjoy

One of the best things about visiting Alaska is that every family member can experience something unforgettable.

Spend the morning watching salmon make their incredible journey upstream, enjoy an easy walk to scenic viewpoints, spot bald eagles soaring overhead, or simply relax beside the river while taking in the peaceful surroundings.

Some adventures are exciting, while others are wonderfully simple—but they all become part of your family’s story.

Explore Beyond the Resort

Your Alaska adventure doesn’t stop when you leave your room.

From scenic drives along the Seward Highway to visits to Exit Glacier, Russian River Falls, wildlife viewing areas, and charming local communities, there are countless opportunities to discover something new together.

Every day can be different, making it easy to build an itinerary that matches your family’s interests and pace.

Create Memories That Last a Lifetime

Children may not remember every destination they visit, but they’ll always remember the experiences they shared with the people they love.

Watching wildlife in its natural habitat, catching a fish for the first time, skipping stones across the river, or enjoying a quiet evening surrounded by Alaska’s breathtaking scenery often become the moments families talk about for years.

Those are the memories that make an Alaska vacation truly special.

After a day filled with exploration, it’s always nice to return somewhere comfortable.

At Alaska Expeditions ULTD & Resort, families can relax, recharge, and prepare for another day of adventure while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Cooper Landing.
